My work is designed to be as effective and efficient as possible, assuring your organization the best opportunity to meet goals while building for the future. I keep my time at a minimum without sacrificing progress or excellence. I urge you to provide staff for administrative details whenever possible, such as setting up appointments. This saves you money and allows you to deal directly with your partners and donors.
Unless otherwise negotiated in advance, fees are as follows:
- In Vermont, consulting is $1200/day prorated by the hour, plus mileage.
- In locations requiring extensive travel, consulting is $1400/day prorated by the hour; with a half day minimum plus travel and any related costs.
- Workshops, conference presentations and other teaching are hourly with $250 minimum, and the daily rate charged for presentations of six hours or more.
- When travel time totals more time than the meeting itself, in any location, I will bill $25/hr. for travel in addition to the consulting time and mileage cost.
- A one hour communications fee is added to the monthly bill for ongoing projects, to cover multiple brief miscellaneous communications including e-mail.
I charge for work in meetings (in person or by phone or other means), telephone contact, writing, research and other independent work conducted on behalf of a client, in quarter-hour segments. When I present an estimate for a full job, I expect to complete the project within 10% of estimate and will notify clients in advance if the job is running over estimate. Mileage is at the current federal rate. Routine office, phone and copying costs are not billed. You will pay any subcontractors directly.
Clients on contract have scheduling preference over clients on an ‘as-needed’ basis.
I do not charge a retainer, but all clients who are involved in an ongoing project with me are expected to keep me informed regarding progress and changes in the project, so I can offer the most appropriate advice and assistance, and I will charge for that time. Clients may cancel a contract without penalty within 15 days of signing said contract.
While I try to do everything reasonable to advance the mission of my clients, I do not solicit contributions, conduct direct mail, provide prospect lists, maintain donor records or prospect lists, or share confidential client or donor information between organizations. My work is entirely as advisor, consultant, researcher, trainer, writer and planner. I do not staff campaigns. My recommendations are informed by my professional experience but do not include sharing data or information specific to any individuals or clients.
It is important to me that my clients are happy with the service I provide, that we communicate well and trust each other, and that fundraising goals are achieved. I urge each client to let me know of any dissatisfaction, and I will work with you to make certain your concerns are met.
